No. 105 Practicing EQ – Tune The Radio
Emotional Intelligence is the ability to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior. Research shows that people with high EI have greater mental health, job performance, and leadership skills.
According to Joshua Freedman, CEO of Six Seconds, the Emotional Intelligence Network, there are 6 practical ways to develop greater emotional intelligence;
Tip #3: Tune The Radio
As social creatures, our emotions serve the purpose of signaling others in our “pack” about risks and opportunities.
Research shows that people have a tendency to unconsciously mimic the emotional expressions of others. This mimicry triggers reactions in our brains that cause us to interpret those expressions as our own feelings, making us vulnerable to "catching" other people's feelings. This ‘emotional contagion’ means that in addition to affecting our own thoughts and actions, our emotions are affecting the people around us.
Practice being an emotional transmitter – deliberately select a positive feeling & intensify it. As you ‘tune the radio’ the energy you transmit will be energizing, motivating, and inspiring.
According to 6Seconds, EQ = blending thinking + feeling to make optimum decisions. How well are you blending yours?
